Pasadena, Southern California
This beautiful, newly renovated home is tucked on the edge of a canyon in Pasadena. The domesticated garden near the house gradually dissolves into the natural landscape of the ravine below, which is home to deer and other wildlife. Many California native plants, along with other Mediterranean and climate-appropriate plants, help to smooth this transition in a naturalistic way. Plants were chosen for their texture, color and form, as well as their resistance to the grazing deer. Various shades of greens and grey are accented with purple and burgundy foliage and pops of bright fuchsia flowers attract pollinators and hummingbirds.
Views from the windows and decks of the house provide the inhabitants with an ever changing kaleidoscope of scenes through the day and from season to season.
It was a joy to work with these clients who are wonderful stewards of their piece of this special canyon and who generously share it with friends and family as well as the wildlife who also call it home.
